“through theatre, we” is the organising principle of The Rendition.
It speaks to theatre as a conduit for connection, but more importantly reconnection. It’s a return to modes of expression that have been central to Black communities across the world for decades. It’s loud, it’s political, it’s emotional - we fight, we make up, and in doing so grow stronger and more united.
The phrasing of “we” emphasises our desire for theatre to become a space that invites and embraces - not tolerates - Black people and Black stories. It’s “ours” as much as it’s “theirs”, and it’s time to share the stage.
The blank space highlights the variety of ways theatre can transform us - especially when it reflects our experience. The possibilities are endless, but here’s a few.
through theatre, we connect, exhale, grieve, laugh, reflect, transform, heal, escape, dream, resist, affirm, restore, love.
