A Place for We follows three different families, who each own the same building in Brixton at different points in time. The play is centred around Clarence James, (David Webber) a British Trinidanian Funeral Director, and his mixed-race son Keron, as they clash over the future of their family business, and the importance of West Indian traditions.

A Place for We is fundamentally a brilliant play. Archie Maddock’s script is carefully crafted, nuanced and, perhaps above all, hilarious.

His naturalistic style, paired with an excellent cast creates many authentic and captivating moments, as the show explores identity, grief, community and importantly change.

Archie’s script is brought to life by a fantastic (fantastic) cast, with David Webber undoubtedly acting as the pillar of the production, commanding the stage with a powerful presence, grace and sincerity. That being said, the entire cast must be given their accolades, as they together put on a very special show.

Gentrification and change are themes that have been, and will continue be explored in the arts, especially in the current climate. However, we’re not sure many are able to do this with the sincerity, and depth of A Place for We.
