Sunny Side Up by David Alade - ★★★★★

Sunny Side Up first took to stage in May of 2022 at Theatre Peckham’s Studio before being transferred to the main stage in February.

Similar to last year, this play was nothing short of explosive. David Alade (writer and actor) has an incredible gift when it comes to storytelling and bringing the audience along on a journey through his expressions in movement and words. The impressive development of this play is what enabled it to earn its 5 star rating, as the growth in both actor and script were almost tangible. Alade, alongside Suzann McLean (director) took this one man play from good to great without missing a beat.

Sunny Side Up is a beautiful work of art that deserves to be seen by everyone. If you have grown up in Peckham; if you have suffered any form of loss, if you know what it is like to lose a parent, if you want to become a better storyteller, if you want to feel and learn vulnerability, watch this play.

Alade increases the various phases of his life that he introduces us to making this piece more vulnerable than ever. The set design by Natalie Pryce paints an amazing picture and also supports Alade in telling his story; everything on set had a purpose and played a crucial role in narrating the story of Sunny.

Running till the 4th March, Sunny Side Up is not one to be missed and David Alade is a talent that we are excited to see more of.
